CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Members of the No. 10 Virginia women’s swimming and diving team will compete in the 25th annual SMU Classic this weekend (Oct. 12-13) at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium in Dallas, Texas. The Cavaliers will send eight swimmers and one diver to the two-day competition.

The Meet
• Virginia will compete in the 25th annual SMU Classic over the weekend, as the team faces SMU, Iowa, Louisville, Miami and USC.
• Three teams will enter with a top 25 ranking according to the first national poll from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America released earlier this week. The No. 10 Cavalier women will face members from No. 8 Louisville and No. 11 USC.
Each team will be represented by eight swimmers and one diver. Swimmers may compete in three events per day, one of which must be a relay. In addition, each team will enter one swimmer per heat (Consolation and Championship).

Cavalier Competitors
• Virginia will be represented by redshirt junior Megan Moroney (Deerfield Beach, Fla.), junior Morgan Hill (Olney, Md.), sophomores Paige Madden (Mobile, Ala.), Anna Pang (London), Abby Richter (Henderson, Nev.) and Kyla Valls (Miami, Fla.), and freshmen Kaki Christensen (Darien, Conn. and Julia Menkhaus (Charlotte, N.C.) in the swim meet, while junior Sydney Dusel (Naperville, Ill.) will compete in the diving competition.

The Team
• Virginia opened its season last Saturday against Penn State. The women topped the Nittany Lions 178-112, recording a first-place finish in 15 events.
• Hill led the team with three individual first-place finishes, winning the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle, in addition to aiding the 400-yard freestyle relay team to a win. Her performance earned her ACC Swimmer of the Week honors.
•  In addition to Hill’s success, eight of the remaining 11 first-place finishes were recorded by this weekend’s competitors. Dusel topped both the 1m and 3m boards, while Christensen (100-yard breaststroke), Menkhaus (200-yard butterfly), Moroney (200-yard backstroke), Madden (500-yard freestyle) and Richter (200-yard individual medley) secured wins in individual events. Moroney, Christensen, Pang and Valls, respectively, finished first in the 200-yard medley relay, while Madden and Christensen aided Hill in the 400-yard freestyle relay team win.
