UVA Game Notes

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – In its final home game of the regular season, No. 6 Virginia (9-2-2, 3-2-1 ACC) will host No. 16 Notre Dame (8-5-1, 3-3 ACC) on Tuesday night (Oct. 23) at 7 p.m. The match is a makeup originally scheduled for Sept. 14.

TICKETS AVAILABLE
Fans can purchase tickets at a discounted rate in advance by going online to VirginiaSports.com/Tickets. For all regular season home games, available reserved single-game tickets can be purchased in advance for $8 online or via mobile devices. Tickets are $10 at the sport-specific ticket office on game day. General admission single-game tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the sport-specific ticket office locations on game day.

FOR STARTERS
• Virginia will play the first of two games against Coastal Division opponents this week.
• A Virginia win over Notre Dame or a Syracuse draw/loss against Clemson on Tuesday would ensure Virginia a top-8 seed and a home game in the ACC Tournament.
• The Cavaliers close out the regular season with three games in seven days, all against teams in the top-5 NCAA RPI (Wake Forest – 1; Notre Dame -5; North Carolina – 4). Virginia has the third-highest RPI in the country as of Monday (Oct. 22).
• Virginia is unbeaten (2-0-1) in the last three meetings vs. Notre Dame
• Notre Dame is the seventh nationally ranked opponent Virginia will face at Klöckner Stadium this season. The Cavaliers own a 3-2-1 against top-25 foes in 2018.
 
SERIES HISTORY
• Virginia and Notre Dame have become pretty familiar with each other over the past five seasons, meeting a total of 10 times, UVA’s most played opponent since 2013.
• Virginia owns a 4-3-3 edge in the 10 meetings including a 2-1 victory in last year’s ACC Quarterfinal.
• The Cavaliers are 2-0-1 against the Irish at Klöckner Stadium and 2-1-2 in ACC regular season action.
 
2018 WEATHER INTERRUPTIONS
• Tuesday’s match is a makeup of the Sept. 14 postponement due to Hurricane Florence.
• Virginia has totaled two postponements, and three game time changes this season
• Virginia has played five afternoon games since 2010, three have occurred this season.
 
WAKE FOREST REVIEW
• No. 1 Wake Forest scored the final two goals, including the game-winner in the 78th minute, in a 3-2 victory at Klöckner Stadium,
• Virginia hosted the No. 1 in the country on Saturday (Oct. 20) for the first time since 2008.
• The two teams combined for four second half goals, three of them in a 4:52 span that included two lead changes.
• Virginia held a 2-1 advantage after freshman Daniel Steedman scored on a bicycle kick in the 73rd minute. The lead would last 3:06 before Wake Forest rattled off two goals just 1:38 apart from each other.
 
CAVALIER DEFENSE
• Virginia slips out of the top-5 nationally to 16th in goals against average for the first time this season and now have allowed nine goals, five in the last three games.
• The Cavaliers are allowing 0.67 goals per game, the second lowest amongst ACC Schools.
• The three goals surrendered on Saturday were the most since a 3-3 draw against Clemson on Sept. 17, 2016. Virginia hadn’t allowed multiple goals in a game since Oct. 10, 2017 against Lehigh, a 4-2 victory at Klöckner Stadium.
• The equalizer and game-winner on Saturday was the first two goals surrendered in the final 15 minutes of a game this season.
• Of the nine goals conceded, four have occurred in the first 15 minutes of the match.
 
GOALS IN BUNCHES
• The Cavaliers have scored multiple goals in the eight of the last nine matches, including a season-high four against Clemson on Oct. 12.
• Virginia has outscored its opponents, 11-5 in the last four games
 
YOUTHFUL ATTACK
• Sophomore Irakoze Donasiyano picked a timely spot to score his first collegiate goal on Saturday afternoon and became Virginia’s 10th goal scorer of the season.
• Donasiyano became the seventh Cavalier to score their first UVA goal in 2018. Freshmen Cabrel Happi Kamseu (5), Daryl Dike (5), Daniel Steedman (2) and Aboubacar Keita (1) account for 13 of the 22 UVA goals in 2018.
• Second years Joe Bell (5) and Nathaniel Crofts (6) have combined for 11 assists. The last Virginia duo to have five or more assists in a season comprised of Eric Bird (5) and Jordan Allen (5) back in 2013.
 
NOTING NOTRE DAME
• The Irish are coming of a 5-2 defeat at home at the hands of Virginia Tech last Friday. The Hokies scored all five goals in the second half, the most surrendered by Notre Dame in a game since 2003.
• Off set pieces this year, the Irish have been dangerous, recording 12 of their 26 goals. Leading scorer Patrick Berneski has scored six of the 12, five off headers.
• Senior defender Felicien Dumas is tied for the second most assists (6) in the ACC with seven other players, including Virginia’s Nathaniel Crofts.
• Notre Dame has recorded ACC wins over Syracuse (3-2), Boston College (1-0) and Louisville (2-1 OT). The Irish have come up short against Duke (2-3), North Carolina (0-1, 2OT) and the aforementioned Virginia Tech.
