CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia redshirt sophomore De’Andre Hunter has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday (Nov. 28).

Hunter was named the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 19.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists as No. 4 Virginia (6-0) captured the title.

The Philadelphia native tallied 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Virginia past then-No. 25 Wisconsin 53-46 in the championship game. That performance came after he matched a career high with 23 points and added six rebounds in the Cavaliers’ 66-59 win over Dayton in the semifinals.

Hunter flirted with a triple-double with 15 points, eight rebounds and career-high nine assists in UVA’s 74-52 win over Middle Tennessee in the quarterfinals. He shot .618 percent from the floor (21-of-34) and 81.3 percent from the free throw line (13-of 16) in the tournament.

In 2017-18, Hunter was named ACC co-Rookie of the Week on Feb. 19 after recording a game-high 22 points to lead then-No. 1 Virginia to a 59-50 win at Miami.

ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and are announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
