#FootballFriday
A couple of football stories from a couple of different types of football. First up, former #UVAMSOC player Todd Wharton has signed with the Portland Timbers. The midfielder played the past three USL campaigns with Rio Grande Valley FC (2016-18), appearing in 63 games (53 starts) and tallying six goals and eight assists. In 2018, Wharton posted career-highs in goals (5) and assists (5). Preseason contests begin February 5 with the regular-season set to start March 2.
On February 9, the Alliance of American Football league begins its inaugural season. Three Cavaliers are on AAF rosters: defensive lineman David Dean and offensive lineman Brandon Pertile are also on the Atlanta Legends roster. Offensive lineman John Montelus will play for the San Diego Fleet. Check out this story from CBS19 on AAF players with local ties.
And finally, back here on Grounds, Ron Counts of the Daily Progress takes a look at the Hoos offseason “build the team within the team” conditioning program.
