Walk-on to Hi-Fi
On the eve of the start of the NCAA Tournament for #UVAMBB, Whitelaw Reid tracks down former Cavalier Will Sherrill, who was a member of the 2009 team when Tony Bennett first arrived on Grounds. Sherrill started as a walk-on and became the first under Bennett to earn a scholarship. In this article from the UVA Today, Sherrill recalls that first meeting and his two seasons playing for Bennett as well as catching up with the vice president of private equity investment firm Kelso & Company.

In another NCAA Tourney-related article, ESPN took another way of looking at the field – ranking the 68 teams by how good their head coach was as a player – and it turns out the Cavaliers would still be one of the top four teams in the field in that ranking. Tony Bennett came in as the fourth-ranked coach based on playing ability in that look at the bracket from the Worldwide Leader.
