Former #UVAFB  wide receiver Tim Smith has been selected for the National Football League’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship program. Smith will complete an internship with the Philadelphia Eagles. Smith is currently the wide receivers coach at Lincoln (Pa.) University. He is entering his second season with the Lions this fall. The program, established in 1987, has an objective to use NFL teams training camps, offseason workout programs and minicamps to give talented coaches opportunities to observe, participate and gain experience in the NFL. Designed as a vocational tool to increase the number of full-time NFL minority coaches, all 32 NFL teams participate each year. Specific aspects of the program, including hiring, compensation and coaching duties, are administered on a club-by-club basis.

Smith was recently the subject of this article from the Virginian Pilot on the recruiting process. A graduate of Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, he will participate in a panel discussion on recruiting titled “Bridging the Gap” Saturday at the Chesapeake Conference Center. He will be joined by former UVA players Quin Blanding (Bayside), Perry Jones (Oscar Smith), Demetrious Nicholson (Bayside) and LaRoy Reynolds (Maury).
