Catching up with our current players competing across the globe in tournaments this summer
 

Brandon Nakashima

Brandon Nakashima closed out his junior career by competing at both the Junior French Open and Junior Wimbledon this summer, advancing to the Round of 16 in singles in both tournaments. He also competed in doubles at Junior Wimbledon, advancing to the quarterfinals with his partner Valentin Royer of France. He also competed in the junior tournament at Roehampton, a grass-court tournament serving as a warm-up for Junior Wimbledon, advancing to the second round of singles. Brandon was the top seed in singles at this year’s 2019 USTA Boy’s 18 National Championship as well as the No. 3 seed in doubles. In singles, he advanced to the semifinals before falling in three sets to eventual champion Zachary Svajda. He won the third-place match against Ronana Jachuck. He was the runner-up in doubles, partnering with Govind Nanda.
 

Carl Soderlund

Carl Soderlund was awarded a wild card into the qualifying tournament of the ATP 250 Swedish Open, but had to face top-seeded Pablo Carreno Busta, who is currently ranked No. 53 in the world. Söderlund won the first set, 6-3, but Carreno Busta took the final two sets 6-4, 6-3. In early July, Söderlund competed in the ITF World Tennis Tour tournament in Wroclaw, Poland. He advanced through qualifying before falling in the first round of the singles main draw. He competed in the ITF World Tennis Tour tournament in Ystad, Sweden, the week of August 5th, falling in the opening round. The week of August 12, he is competing in qualifying for the ITF World Tennis Tour stop in Koksijde, Belgium.
 

Gianni Ross

Gianni Ross competed in the ITF World Tennis Tour tournament in Norman, Okla., in mid July, advancing to the second round. He advanced through qualifying to earn a spot in the main draw of the Old Capital Tennis Championships in Iowa City, Iowa on July 16, advancing to the Round of 16 before falling in three-sets to the No. 4 seed. He advanced to the qualifying final of the $25K tournament in Champaign, Ill. He competed the week of August 5 at the Futures Tournament in Edwardsville, Ill., advancing out of qualifying into the main draw where he made it through to the Round of 16.
