Former UVA swimmers Brendan Casey and Leah Smith were named to the 2019-20 U.S. National Team roster. Casey made the team in the 10k, while Smith qualified for the U.S. team in the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle.  Additionally, head Virginia swimming and diving coach Todd DeSorbo and associate head coach Tyler Fenwick will serve as the U.S. National Team coaches for Casey.

Another hopeful for the team, Caroline Gmelich was featured in her hometown paper, the Rumson (N.J.)/Fair Haven Journal. The sophomore will be competing in the 2020 Olympic Trials this coming June in Omaha, Neb. in tow events, the 100 butterfly and backstroke.

Former #UVAWSoc defender Becky Sauerbrunn, now with the Utah Royals in the National Women’s Soccer League, showed she can do a bit of everything over the weekend as she helped lift the Utah Royals to a 1-0 victory over the Portland Thorns with a beautiful header in the first-half. She and her defense then kept things locked down in the second half to keep her team in the hunt for the playoffs. Watch the Twitter video of it here.
