Hoos With Trophies
We have so many former #UVABase players picking up postseason hardware, it needed to trickle over to a second day here on the blog. Today’s congrats go out to Daniel Lynch and the Carolina League champion Wilmington Blue Rocks. Lynch started game one of the championship series, striking out seven in five innings. It was the first time in 20 years that the Blue Rocks, who are currently the Advanced-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, have won the title. Check out the celebration here.
Tired of this yet? We’re not! Congratulations to Pavin Smith and the Jackson Generals on winning the Double-A Southern League title. Smith recorded the final out of the series, a 6-4-3 double play that ended in Smith’s glove. Check out that celebration video here.
And finally, congratulations and good luck to Joe McCarthy, whose Sacramento River Cats won the Pacific Coast League title. McCarthy will be facing another former Hoo, Ernie Clement, and his team the Columbus Clippers tonight in a one-game, winner-take-all Triple-A National Championship game, played at 8pm in Memphis.
By our count, that makes SEVEN former Hoos that won titles last week.
