UVA Players Win Five Matches on Final Day of the Orange and Blue Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Members of the Virginia men’s tennis team competed as individuals this weekend in the Cavaliers’ home fall tournament, the Orange and Blue Classic, which took place Friday through Sunday, Sept. 27-29, at the Snyder Tennis Center. Admission is free.

• Columbia, Penn State, Old Dominion and Virginia have players competing

• Friday:  one doubles, one singles.  Matches start at 10AM
• Saturday:  one doubles, one singles.  Matches start at 10AM
• Sunday:  one doubles, one singles.  Matches start at 9AM

 
Sunday Highlights

• The Cavaliers picked up wins in A, B, C singles flights as well as two doubles wins
• Junior Gianni Ross (Chicago, Ill.) went a perfect 3-for-3 in singles matches over the weekend, closing the tournament with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Francois Musitelli
• Senior Ammar Alhaqbani (Alexandria, Va.) also went 3-for-3 in singles, topping Nicola Vidal, 6-2, 6-4. Alhaqbani moved up to play in the C flight on Sunday after playing in E on Friday and D on Saturday
• Sophomore Ryan Goetz (Greenlawn, N.Y.) won his B flight match over Jannik Giesse
