CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Nine current and former members of the Virginia men’s tennis team competed this week at the Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger, held at the Boar’s Head Sports Club from October 29 through November 3.
Senior Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Brandon Nakashima (San Diego, Calif.) competed in both the singles and doubles draws. Junior Gianni Ross (Chicago, Ill.) was a late addition to the singles draw, being named as an alternate and earning a bye into the second round after a UVA alum, Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, withdrew from the tournament. Junior Matthew Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) and sophomore Ryan Goetz (Greenlawn, N.Y.) played in the doubles draw.
Nakashima advanced to the semifinals of the tournament, downing three seeded players during his run. He moved up to No. 392 in the ATP live rankings during the tournament.
Alumni Alexander Ritschard and JC Aragone competed in the singles draw. Aragone also played in the doubles draw along with Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot. Ryan Shane was also in the initial singles draw, but withdrew from the tournament.
