CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s tennis team swept this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference weekly tennis honors with freshman Brandon Nakashima (San Diego, Calif.)  being named the ACC Men’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week and Nakashima and senior Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) being named the ACC Doubles Team of the Week as announced Tuesday (April 16) by the conference.

Nakashima helped lead the Cavaliers to a win in the top-10 showdown against North Carolina and the Commonwealth Clash match with Virginia Tech. Nakashima edged No. 95 John Peck of North Carolina on Friday night, swinging momentum back in the Cavaliers’ favor in the eventual 4-2 win. The victory over the Tar Heels also helped Virginia secure the No. 2 seed in the upcoming ACC Men’s Tennis Championship. On Sunday, Nakashima topped Henrik Korsgaard, 6-3, 6-4, in the Cavaliers’ 4-2 win over the Hokies.

In doubles, Nakashima and Wiersholm topped the No. 28 ranked duo from North Carolina on Friday night on court one, helping UVA win the crucial doubles point. Nakashima and Wiersholm also picked up a win on court two on Sunday in the Virginia Tech match. Nakashima and Wiersholm went undefeated in conference doubles matches this season, posting a 7-0 record.

This is the second time this season Nakashima has been named the ACC Player of the Week and the fifth time a Virginia player has earned the honor. This is the first time a UVA doubles team has earned the accolade. It is also the first time in Wiersholm’s career he has earned one of the conference’s weekly honors.
