Virginia Athletics Master Plan | 2019 Schedule | 2019 Soccer Ticket Information

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 12 Virginia men’s soccer team will wrap its 2019 preseason on Saturday (Aug. 24) when it hosts Drexel at Klöckner Stadium. The friendly is slated for a 7 p.m. start and admission is free to the public.

A live stream or live stats will not be available for any of the Cavalier exhibition matches. Fans can follow along on the team’s official twitter account (@UVAMenSoccer) for in-game updates.

The Cavaliers enter the match with a 1-0-1 record in the preseason that includes a 3-1 victory over Villanova on Tuesday (Aug. 20) and a 1-1 draw against Siena back on Aug. 17.

Through two exhibition games, Virginia junior Nathaniel Crofts has scored twice, with a goal in each match. Both of his tallies were game-tying scores including a penalty kick conversion against Villanova to level the match at one. Henry Kessler was credited with the second half game-winner against the Wildcats and Jerren Nixon Jr. made it 3-1 with a successful penalty kick attempt.

Drexel is looking to build a 9-5-3 campaign last season that saw the Dragons post a 5-3-1 mark in Colonial Athletic Association action. Sophomore Chris Donovan, a Preseason All-CAA selection, returns after finishing third on the team with nine points (3g, 3a). The Dragons were picked to finish seventh out of eight schools in the leagues preseason poll.

Virginia and Drexel have met only once in the regular season, a 2-0 victory by the Cavaliers back in 2012.

Virginia will commence its 76th year of soccer on Friday, Aug. 30 when it hosts Pacific at Klöckner Stadium as part of a doubleheader with the Cavalier women’s team. On Monday, Sept. 2, Virginia will return to Audi Field in Washington, D.C. for the second-straight season to take on former ACC foe, Maryland.
