Aiken, S.C. – After the first 36 holes of play, the Virginia men’s golf team is in second place at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C. The Cavaliers shot 15-under 545, including rounds of 9-under 271 and 6-under 274, on the par-70 course. Clemson leads the 15-team field, two strokes ahead of UVA.
 
All five of Virginia’s players finished the first day of competition in the top-10 on the leaderboard. Sophomore Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) topped that pack. He posted rounds of 3-under 67 and 1-under 69 for a two-round total of 4-under 136. He will enter Tuesday’s final round three shots behind co-leaders Jacob Bridgeman and Turk Pettit of Clemson. Massie’s best career finish came at the 2018 Palmetto Intercollegiate when he placed fifth. Both of his rounds today were low scores for the season.
 
UVA freshman Pietro Bovari (Milano, Italy) had the team’s low round of the day, shooting 5-under 65 during the afternoon to climb up to a fourth-place tie on the leaderboard at 3-under 137. Bovari’s second-round score was his best as a Cavalier.
 
Senior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and junior WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Philippines) are tied for sixth place at 2-under 138. Both players posted rounds of 68 and 70. Sophomore Sam Jung (Centreville, Va.) is ninth overall at 1-over 141. He shot 68 and 73.
 
The final round of the tournament is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday. UVA will be paired with Furman and Clemson during the final round. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
