Around the Bases

Yesterday, former @UVABaseball pitcher Tommy Doyle was added to the Rockies’ 60-man roster, giving Virginia 18 former players on MLB rosters this summer. However, as Caroline Darney of Streaking the Lawn points out, it is the Phillies’ Phil Gosselin that deserves our attention. His contract was selected by the Phillies for the 40-man roster on July 24th, and he got the starting nod on July 25th for Philadelphia’s second game against Florida. He finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBI and a walk, and then followed it up on Sunday with a 1-for-3 performance with one single and one run scored. Through the two games he has seen action in so far this season, Gosselin is 4-for-6 with three runs scored, two home runs, and three RBI. He’s batting .667 with two walks and only one strikeout.
