CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.  – Virginia men’s lacrosse player Alex Rode was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference for games played through February 9.
 
It is the first time in his career that Rode (Timonium, Md.) has been named ACC Defensive Player of the Week. 
 
Facing 55 shots, Rode tied his career high with 19 saves in UVA’s 12-9 win over then-No. 14 Loyola on Feb. 8. He made 13 saves in the first half against 28-first half shots by the Greyhounds, helping UVA stake a 9-3 lead by intermission time. Rode also picked up six ground balls and caused two turnovers in the winning cause.
 
Virginia returns to action on Sat., Feb. 15 against No. 18 Lehigh. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ACCNX.
