CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  Virginia men’s tennis sophomore Jeffrey von der Schulenburg competed at the 2021 ITA National Fall Championships, being held November 4-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, California. The Championships are the grand finale of the fall collegiate tennis season and feature 64 of the nation’s top collegiate singles players (32 men and 32 women) and 64 of the nation’s top collegiate doubles teams (32 men’s teams and 32 women’s teams). The event is in its fifth year, having replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships beginning in 2017.

Von der Schulenburg fell 6-1, 6-3 against No. 3 seed August Holmgren of San Diego on Thursday in the first round of the main singles draw. He drops into the consolation bracket where he faced James Trotter of Ohio State on Friday, winning 7-5, 7-5 to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. His run at the tournament ended with a 6-3, 6-1 loss against Gabriel Diallo of Kentucky.

Von der Schulenburg was selected for the singles field as an alternate. Iñaki Montes qualified to play in both singles and doubles but withdrew due to advancing in the Charlottesville Pro Challenger tournament. Ryan Goetz was to partner with Montes in the doubles draw but withdrew because of injury.
