CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The No. 6 Virginia men’s tennis team (5-0) plays at No. 5 Ohio State (6-0) on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 12 p.m.

MATCH INFORMATION

  • The match is open to the public. Fans will be required to wear a mask while in attendance

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • Virginia remained at No. 6 in this week’s ITA team rankings. Updated doubles and singles rankings will be announced on Wednesday (Feb. 9)
  • Virginia was scheduled to play on Friday at No. 11 Kentucky, but the match was postponed because of weather. The two teams will now play on Thursday, March 31 at 5 p.m. in Lexington
  • This will be the first top-10 match for the Cavaliers this season. They are 1-0 against top-20 teams with a 6-1 victory against No. 20 Harvard
  • Ryan Goetz is the reigning ACC Player of the Week after his performance at ITA Kickoff Weekend. Goetz earned ACC Doubles Team of the Week honors last season, but this is his first time being named the ACC Player of the Week. Goetz is 4-0 in dual matches this season
  • Goetz follows Iñaki Montes in earning the conference weekly honor. Montes is 8-1 in singles this year
  • Goetz and Montes are 4-0 at No. 2 doubles
  • Gianni Ross is a perfect 5-0 in singles
  • Chris Rodesch leads the team with a 12-2 record
  • Virginia is 23-1 in singles dual matches and 12-2 in doubles

NOTING OHIO STATE

  • Ohio State is coming off a 4-0 win against No. 1 Tennessee on Friday night
  • Five Buckeyes finished the fall ranked in the ITA singles rankings – No. 5 Matej Vocel, No. 14 JJ Tracy, No. 21 Cannon Kingsley, No. 42 James Trotter and No. 95 Robert Cash.
  • In doubles, Ohio State has the top-two ranked teams in No. 1 Vocel and Cash and No. 2 Trotter and Justin Boulais. Vocel and Cash are 17-0 in doubles this season and 3-0 in dual matches
  • Virginia holds a 9-5 lead in the series against Ohtio State and is the only team to win in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center as the Cavaliers won 4-2 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend last year

  • The Cavaliers’ challenging road schedule continues next week when Virginia plays at No. 2 Baylor on Saturday, Feb. 12 and at No. 4 TCU on Sunday, Feb. 13
