No. 7 Virginia Travels to Texas to Face Two Top-5 Teams
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Virginia men’s tennis team (5-1) plays two top-five road games this week in the state of Texas, playing at No. 3 Baylor (9-0) on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. ET and at No. 4 TCU (6-1) on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. ET.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS
- Virginia fell one spot in this week’s ITA team rankings to No. 7 after losing at Ohio State last week. The Buckeyes have moved up to No. 1 in the ITA rankings
- Updated singles and doubles rankings were announced this week. Sophomore Chris Rodesch, who is 12-3 in singles this season, is ranked No. 17 to lead the Cavaliers
- Senior Ryan Goetz and sophomore Iñaki Montes are right next to one another in the singles rankings at No. 29 and 30. Goetz is 9-2 overall and 4-0 in dual matches. Montes is 8-1 and 2-0 in duals
- Goetz and Montes are 7-0 as a doubles team and are 4-0 in dual matches playing at the No. 2 slot
- Rodesch and William Woodall are ranked No. 22 in doubles
- These matches will give UVA three-straight road contests against top-five opponents heading into next week’s ITA National Team Indoor Championships
NOTING THE OPPONENTS
- Baylor was the 2021 NCAA runner-up and have been picked as the preseason favorite to repeat as Big 12 champions
- The Bears return five players from the 2021 team. Tadeas Paroulek is their top-ranked singles player at No. 39
- 2021 ITA Texas Region Coach of the Year Michael Woodson is in his second season as the head coach
- TCU downed then- No. 1 Florida 4-3 in Fort Worth before being edged 4-3 by then-No. 4 Tennessee later that same weekend
- The Horned Frogs return four student-athletes from last year’s Elite Eight team, including Big 12 Player of the Year Luc Fomba
- Juan Carlos Aguilar, a grad transfer from Texas A&M, is their top-ranked singles player at No. 15. They have four other players ranked in singles
ON THE HORIZON
- Next week the Cavaliers head to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, being held Feb. 18-21 in Seattle, Wash.
- Bracket and match-ups for the tournament will be released Tuesday
