CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The No. 14 Virginia men’s tennis team (8-5, 0-0 ACC) plays its first home match of the outdoor portion of the season on Friday, March 11, taking on No. 21 Notre Dame (11-4, 2-0 ACC) at 3 p.m. The Cavaliers close out the weekend by hosting Louisville (10-4, 2-0 ACC) on Sunday, March 13 at 1 p.m.

Both matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort. Please monitor the Virginia men’s tennis social media accounts for any weather-related changes.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • The Cavaliers opened conference play last weekend with a 4-0 win at Duke and a 4-2 victory at North Carolina
  • Senior Ryan Goetz and sophomore Chris Rodesch were named the ACC Doubles Team of the Week after topping No. 4 ranked Brian Cernoch and Mac Kiger in a tiebreaker to clinch the doubles point at UNC
  • Rodesch and Goetz are ranked No. 11 in the updated doubles rankings
  • Rodesch is ranked No. 15 in singles; Goetz is No. 54
  • Rodesch has seven singles wins against nationally-ranked opponents
  • Goetz and fifth-year senior Gianni Ross won both of their singles matches last weekend to start 2-0 in the ACC
  • Sophomore Jeffrey von der Schulenburg is 11-1 in singles in dual matches and has won his last six completed matches

NOTING THE OPPONENTS

  • Notre Dame opened conference play with a 4-3 win against Georgia Tech and bring a four-match win streak into the weekend
  • Axel Nefve, who plays at No. 1 singles, is the Irish’s lone ranked player at No. 44. He is 8-2 in dual matches this spring and 12-5 overall
  • Virginia is 17-2 all-time against Notre Dame
  • Louisville has won its last seven matches heading into Friday’s contest in Blacksburg against the Hokies. Its last loss was a 4-2 setback on Feb. 4 against Middle Tennessee
  • The Cardinals are No. 36 in this week’s ITA computerized team rankings
  • Etienne Donnet is the lone ranked player for the Cardinals at No. 92
  • Donnet is the ACC Co-Singles Player of the Week. He has won his last five straight singles matches and is 9-5 on the season
  • Sergio Hernandez is 10-1 in dual matches
  • Virginia is 10-2 all time against Louisville
