Happy Anniversary
On Thursday, Title IX will celebrate its 50th anniversary of being signed into law. Val Ackerman, one of the first females to earn an athletic scholarship at UVA, has been speaking on the topic a lot last week and this week, but the absolute MUST READ piece is this essay she wrote for Sports Illustrated discussing her personal experience and the impact it has had on women’s sports.
Hoo-Union
There was a Cavalier reunion this weekend at the All-England Lawn and Tennis Club. UVA alums Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and Alexander Ritschard were playing in the singles qualifying tournament and were joined by current strength and conditioning coach Justin Russ and another alum, Carl Sรถderlund, who lives in England. Even with this photo chock full of Hoos, there are still others not pictured. Danielle Collins will be the 7-seed in the women’s tournament. Treat Huey will be playing in the doubles draw and Brandon Nakashima in singles.
