NOTRE DAME, Ind. –  The No.13 Virginia men’s tennis team (12-4, 4-0 ACC) closed out the weekend with a 5-2 win at Notre Dame (10-7, 1-3 ACC) on Sunday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion in Notre Dame, Ind.

The Cavaliers won the doubles point and rattled off three-straight singles victories to take a 4-0 lead. Ryan Goetz won the deciding match for the Hoos.

Iñaki Montes and Goetz got things started with a 6-2 win on doubles court two. After Notre Dame took court one, 6-3, the point came down to a tiebreaker on court three. Alex Kiefer and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg won the breaker 7-2 to clinch the point.

In singles, Montes won his match on court two against Jean-Marc Malkowski before Chris Rodesch had completed his first set on the top court. Kiefer followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win on six to give UVA a 3-0 lead.

Goetz, who was playing up a court on three, closed out the victory with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Connor Fu.

Notre Dame picked up wins on courts one and four.

Freshman Måns Dahlberg rebounded from a 6-1 loss in his first set on court five against Yu Zhang to win the second 6-2. They initially started a full third set and were tied two games apiece when it was decided for them to play a super breaker instead, which Dahlberg won 10-4 to close out the match and give UVA its fifth point.
