CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team (8-13, 1-10 ACC) will host Virginia Tech (12-10, 2-9 ACC) in the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash on Sunday (Oct. 29) at John Paul Jones Arena for the first time in program history. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.

General admission tickets are available at UVATix.com or by calling the UVA Athletics ticket office at 434-924-8821. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the gate. Student admission to the match is free.

The clear bag policy will be in effect.

  • Virginia match against the Hokies will be streamed on ACC Network (ACCN) through the ESPN app and at WatchESPN.com for customers who have the ACC Network as part of their TV subscription.
  • Live stats will also be available for the match and can be accessed through the volleyball schedule page on VirginiaSports.com

  • Parking will be available to the public free of charge in all surrounding JPJ lots, including the JPJ garage.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Virginia narrowly trails Virginia Tech in the all-time series, as the Hokies lead 40-39. The Cavaliers claimed both matches in the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash last year, including a 3-0 sweep in Memorial Gymnasium. Grace Turner led UVA with 19 kills on .343 hitting percentage while Gabby Easton posted 36 assists and 11 digs.

THE SMITHFIELD COMMONWEALTH CLASH

  • The Smithfield Commonwealth Clash, originally called the Commonwealth Challenge (2005-2007), has been a part of the UVA-Virginia Tech rivalry since 2014.
  • It is an all-sports, points-based program with the Commonwealth Clash trophy presented to the winning school each year for its dominance in head-to-head competitions.
  • Virginia holds a 4-0 advantage in this year’s competition.
