CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s tennis player Dylan Dietrich (Zurich, Switzerland) has been named the ACC Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Year in honors announced Thursday (April 25) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Additionally, seniors Chris Rodesch and Iñaki Montes were named to the All-ACC First Team for singles, with Dietrich earning second-team honors and senior Jeffrey von der Schulenburg named to the third team.

Rodesch, von der Schulenburg, Montes and grad student James Hopper all earned third-team honors for doubles.

Dietrich was named the ACC Freshman of the Week six times this season, with no other player earning the weekly accolade more than once. He went 8-2 in singles play in conference matches, posting an identical record in doubles. Ranked as the No. 2 player in the ITA National Newcomer Rankings heading into the season, he fulfilled those expectations, posting a 19-5 record in singles with three wins against ranked opponents.

Dietrich is the seventh player in program history to earn the conference’s rookie award, joining Brian Vahaly (1998), Doug Stewart (2003), Somdev Devvarman (2005), Alex Domijan (2011), Mitchell Frank (2012) and Brandon Nakashima (2019).

Rodesch earned his third-straight All-ACC First Team honor with an 11-1 record in conference play. He is currently ranked No. 4 in the ITA Singles Rankings with a 21-4 overall record.

Montes earned All-ACC singles honors for the fourth straight year, being named to the first team for the second time. Montes went 12-7 in singles this season with a 10-5 record against ranked players.

Von der Schulenburg also earned his fourth career All-ACC singles honor. He leads the team with 24 singles victories this year, posting a 9-3 record in conference play.

As a doubles team, Rodesch and von der Schulenburg were 10-1 this season playing at No. 2 with a 12-4 overall mark.

Montes and Hopper are currently ranked No. 10 in the ITA Doubles rankings. They have gone 5-0 against ranked opponents this year with four victories against tandems ranked in the top 25. In the fall, they advanced to the semifinals of the ITA All-American.

All-ACC honors are determined by a vote of the league’s 13 head coaches.
