PARIS – Virginia senior Gretchen Walsh posted a personal-best time in final of the 100 Freestyle and alumna Kate Douglass paced the semifinal field of the 200 Breast in action Wednesday (July 31) at the Olympic swimming competition at Paris La Defense Arena in Paris, France.

Douglass posted the third fastest time in the 200 Breast in prelims, clocking a 2:23.44. In the evening semifinal, she had the fastest time of the 16 swimmers with a 2:19.74. She will be the top seed in Thursday’s final as she swims for her first individual medal of the 2024 Games.

Walsh finished eighth in the 100 Free with a time of 53.04, 0.09 seconds faster than her previous best mark.

Thursday’s (Aug. 1) morning session features the prelims for the 4×200 free relay, with alumna Paige Madden expected to be part of that relay. The 4×200 final and the 200 Breast final will both be contested in the second session. The prelim starts at 5 a.m. with the second session starting at 2:30 p.m.

The Olympic swimming events run through Sunday, August 4.
