CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 25 Virginia women’s soccer team (9-4-0, 2-4-0 ACC) continues conference play at home on Sunday (Oct. 13) when the Cavaliers host SMU (6-6-2, 2-3-2 ACC) at Klöckner Stadium. Kick is set for 1 p.m.

  • The Cavaliers got back in the win column on Thursday night with a 3-0 win over NC State.
  • The shutout of the Wolfpack was the seventh shutout of the season by the Virginia defense.
  • Virginia has played a challenging schedule this season with the No. 19 toughest schedule in the nation with a slate that features eight teams in the top 50 of the RPI and three of the top five.

  • Meredith McDermott struck quickly vs. NC State with a goal one minute into play. It was the 10th fastest goal scored in program history and she has two career goals scored in the opening minute.
  • McDermott also added an assist in the win over the Wolfpack, connecting with Allie Ross.
  • The goal was the fifth of the season for Ross and it was the 11th goal of her career with the Hoos.
  • Maggie Cagle tallied two assists vs. NC State to tie her career high for assists in a game. It was her fourth multiple-assist game and she has 10 career assists on game-winning goals.
  • Yuna McCormack returned to the pitch for the Hoos at UNC – her first game since the opening week – and scored her first goal of the season. She has a goal and an assist in her last three games.
  • Cagle hit the game-winning goal at VCU for her 17th career goal and eighth game winner. She ranks third in the ACC and 28th nationally in game-winning goals this season with three.
  • Cagle has been efficient as the UVA goal leader with six goals out of 13 shots on frame this season
  • Thirteen different Hoos have found the net this season as the Virginia offense has been spreading the ball around in 2024 and 10 different players have assisted on those goals

THE SERIES WITH SMU

  • Virginia and SMU have met five times in program history with the Hoos holding a 4-1 lead in the series.
  • The last meeting between the teams came in the 2012 season, a 2-1 win for UVA in a game hosted by Texas.
  • This is the first meeting in Charlottesville since the initial meeting in the 1989 season, a 4-1 win by the Hoos.
  • UVA and SMU meet for the first time as conference foes with the meeting as SMU joined the ACC this year.
