LAST TIME OUT

  • The Cavaliers opened the week by outlasting the Orange of Syracuse in five sets for the first win at Syracuse since 1992.
  • Lauryn Bowie led the Cavaliers on Wednesday with a team-best 19 kills and four blocks. Elayna Duprey added 14 more kills and tied for the match-high with three aces.
  • UVA moved to 5-1 on the season in five-set matches and collected a season-high 69 kills in the victory.

  • Virginia is off to its best start since 2003, when the Cavaliers won 17 of the first 20 matches of the season.
  • UVA is off to its first 6-3 start in ACC play since 2006.

VIRGINIA WELCOMES SEVEN NEWCOMERS IN 2024

  • Of UVA’s 16 players on its 2024 roster, seven of them are new to the program.
  • The Cavaliers’ roster features three transfers Kadynce Boothe (OH) from Tennessee, Kate Dean (MB) from Eastern Illinois and Elayna Duprey (OH) from Virginia Tech.
  • Virginia’s freshmen, who made up the nation’s No. 26 signing class of 2023 according to PrepDig.com, consist of Sarah Brodner (OH/RS), Zoey Dood (S), Teagan Hogan (DS/L) and Becca Wight (RS).

HOOS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • As a team, Virginia ranks top 100 in a number of categories nationally including opponent hitting percentage (.168/32nd), team total blocks (174.5/76th) and blocks per set (2.27/99th).
  • Abby Tadder, Milan Gomillion and Kate Dean lead the way in the individual rankings. Tadder ranks 91st nationally in total blocks with 83. Gomillion’s 324 digs on the season place her 72nd nationally and her digs per set mark of 4.21 also ranks her 90th in the country. Following back-to-back stellar weekends, Kate Dean ranks 57th in the country with a .363 hitting percentage.
