SUMMER OF 2019

• Still qualified to play in junior tournaments in the summer of 2019, moving up to a No. 4 world junior ranking
• Made the semifinals in singles at the USTA Boys 18s National Championships, winning the third-place match. Was the runner-up in doubles
• Advanced to the the semifinals of the Junior US Open in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles
• Advanced to the Round of 16 in singles and the quarterfinals of doubles at Junior Wimbledon and the third round of singles at the Junior French Open

2018-19

• ACC Freshman of the Year, the sixth player in program history to earn the honor
• All-ACC First Team, the only freshman on the first team
• ITA Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year
• All-ACC Academic Team
• Ranked No. 64 in singles and No. 11 in doubles in the final rankings
• Was the first alternate for the NCAA Doubles Championship, but withdrew from consideration for the competition
• Finished the year with a 17-5 record at singles, including going 3-0 in the NCAA Championship
• Posted a 20-3 record in doubles, winning 19 of those matches while partnering with Henrik Wiersholm. The tandem won all four of their doubles matches in the NCAA team tournament
• Finished the season with a 8-0 record in doubles in ACC matches
• Made his collegiate debut by downing William & Mary’s Finbar Talcott 6-0, 6-3 on court two (1/17)
  Played his first matches at No. 1 singles at ITA Kickoff weekend, including downing Cal’s Paul Barretto (1/26)
• ACC Player of the Week (Feb. 12) after playing an important role in the Cavaliers’ 5-2 victory over top-ranked Wake Forest, taking down No. 21 Bar Botzer in straight-sets on court three. That same weekend, he also topped Boston College’s Derek Austin on the top court, handing Austin his first loss of the dual season, 6-3, 6-2
• ACC Singles and Doubles Player of the Week (Apr. 16) after picking up singles wins against North Carolina. He and Wiersholm topped the No. 28-ranked duo from UNC to help UVA win the crucial doubles point against the Tar Heels
• Graduated high school a semester early to enroll at Virginia in January
• Still qualified (by age) to play in junior tournaments in the summer of 2019, ranked as the No. 4 junior in the world. Advanced to the third round of the Junior French Open (June 6)

BACKGROUND

• No. 4 junior player in the world
• Upset world No. 1 junior Chun Hsin Tseng to win the 2018 ITF Junior Masters Boys’ Singles Championship in Chengdu, China in October
• Played in three junior Grand Slams in 2018, advancing to the quarterfinals in singles at the junior US and French Opens and the quarterfinals of doubles at Junior Wimbledon
• In a warm-up to Wimbledon, he won the singles title at the 2018 Junior International Roehampton tournament
• Won the singles title at International Spring Championships in Carson, Calif. in April 2018
