Virginia volleyball head coach Shannon Wells announced the promotion of Trevor Kennan as one of the program’s assistant coaches on Aug. 2, 2023. Prior to his elevation as the volleyball program’s assistant coach, Kennan served as the Cavaliers’ volunteer assistant coach during the 2022 season.

Kennan is primarily responsible for training UVA’s defensive specialists and liberos and managing its serve-receive formations. Additionally, he assists with the Cavaliers’ recruiting efforts, team camps, practice players and team managers.

“Trevor has had a major impact in our program [in 2022] as a volunteer assistant,” said Wells. “He’s a perfect fit for UVA and our program because he cares about our student-athletes as people, is a life-long learner, lives life with joy and appreciation, and works extremely hard. Our staff and team are beyond excited to retain Trevor as a full-time assistant coach at UVA.”

Kennan earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a minor in Coaching from George Mason in 2022, where he was a four-year contributor both as a libero and an outside hitter. In 2021, he led the Patriots in digs (135) and digs per set (1.96), good for second in the EIVA. In 2021, Kennan recorded a career-best 17 digs against Ball State (Jan. 22).

A native of Redington Beach, Florida, Kennan attended Seminole High School. He played on the travel circuit for MVP Academy Club, and in 2017 was named an AAU National All-American. A three-sport athlete, Kennan also lettered in golf and tennis for Seminole. He is also the first player in Seminole history to earn a Division I men’s volleyball scholarship.
