Jimmy Yu joined the women’s basketball staff in July of 2018 as the assistant director of basketball operations, being elevated to the director of operations during the 2020-21 season.
Yu oversees all operational and administrative aspects of the women’s basketball program, including building and managing the annual budget, supervising office personnel and student-managers, coordinating team travel and practice schedules, managing the Nike apparel budget, serving as the liaison between the head coach and all aspects of UVA athletic administration and collaborating with various departments within the University, athletics and conference office.

Yu came to Virginia after spending the 2017-18 season working as the video coordinator and assistant director of operations for Wake Forest’s Women’s Basketball team. One of his primary duties was to breakdown film and player clips for the coaching staff, as well as assisting the preparation of scouting reports.
Before working for the Demon Deacons, Yu was the head student manager for Louisville’s women’s basketball staff for two years under head coach Jeff Walz. While with the Cardinals, Yu helped facilitate their elite college level camp and helped coordinate official and unofficial visits for prospective student-athletes. He aided the operations staff at Louisville by creating itineraries and securing reservations for flights and hotels during the regular season as well as the team’s international trip to Cuba.
A native of Midlothian, Virginia, Yu graduated from Louisville cum laude in December of 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in sport administration.
