Shelley Blakey joined the University of Virginia staff in 2003 as an assistant athletic trainer. She began working with the field hockey team in 2018 after serving 15 seasons primarily with the men’s and women’s track and field teams. Blakey is co-coordinator of sports medicine for camps, oversees the Sports Medicine Student Volunteer Program and organizes sports medicine shadowing opportunities for high school students.Prior to joining the UVA staff, Blakey spent three years as athletic trainer at Albemarle High School in Charlottesville. She received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Virginia in sports medicine.Blakey is a certified athletic trainer with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification, an American Red Cross Instructor for CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid, and an American Red Cross Lay Responder First Aid Instructor.Blakey and her husband, Lance, have two children, twins Landon and Olivia.
