Sydney Martin joined the Virginia Athletics Academic Affairs staff in 2019 as a learning specialist. She provides academic support strategies for student-athletes and works with the Student Disability Access Center to arrange accommodations for student-athletes with education impacting disabilities. She is the hiring manager for all CAST academic mentors, content tutors and study hall monitors.
Martin previously served as a learning specialist intern in the Athletics Academic Affairs department for a year before taking on a full-time position. She also worked at the University in the Office of Prevention as a positive organization expectations facilitator. Martin was a teacher in the Walton County (Fla.) School District from 2010 to 2016 and before taking on the role of intervention specialist from 2017 to 2018. Between those appointments, she spent a year as a training manager for Vineyard Vines. S
he earned undergraduate degrees in liberal and civic studies from Saint Mary’s College of California (2006) and in early childhood education from Kennesaw State (2010). She completed her master’s degree from Virginia in higher education in 2019.
