The Story: A.C.E is a service project that was created in 2006 as a result of a small group of Cavalier football players (Tom Santi, Pat Slebonick, Chris Long, John Phillips, and Scott Deke) who wanted to work in a local school to interact with students. A.C.E is designed as an in-school program for students at local schools to promote academic success, support character development, strengthen and build leadership qualities. During the Spring 2010 semester, there are currently 17 different sports teams comprising 99 student athletes that dedicate their time to the students of Charlottesville’s local schools.

Mission of ACE:

  • Promote classroom success and achievement through implementation of a partnership between Cavalier athletes and local schools.
  • Provide positive role models, leading by example.
  • Actively participate in building the school’s community.

Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville/Ablemarle: Learning Circles

The Boys and Girls Club’s mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. The Junior League of Charlottesville is partnering with the B&G Club in their Learning Circles project, which is designed to help build self esteem in pre-adolescent girls as they approach their teenage years by providing positive role models. This spring semester, the Junior League member volunteers asked Virginia female student-athletes to participate. Our cavalier female student-athletes met with a group of 20 girls aged 8-12yrs to promote healthy lifestyles, fitness, and self-esteem.
