CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – After a slow first quarter in which it scored a singlegoal, the University of Virginia men’s lacrosse team erupted for eightsecond quarter tallies en route to a 21-0 win over visiting Ohio State thisafternoon at Klockner Stadium. The win raises Virginia’s record to 4-1,while Ohio State falls to 3-1 this season.

The shutout is the sixth in school history and the Cavaliers’ first since a27-0 whitewash of Virginia Tech in 1986.

Midfielder Hanley Holcomb tallied the first two goals for Virginia, givinghim six goals in the last two games. Holcomb broke a scoreless tie with4:39 left in the first quarter by beating Buckeye goalie Mike Abelas on adodge in front.

Holcomb scored again in an extra-man situation early in the second periodas the Cavaliers scored five goals in the first five minutes of the quarterto take control and set the tone for the remainder of way.

Tucker Radebaugh scored a career-high five goals to lead the Cavaliers,while Jamie Leachman reached the back of the net four times. Freshmanattackman Conor Gill registered a career-high five assists, while fellowattackman Drew McKnight tied his season high three assists. Virginia placed43 of its 50 shots on goal.

Virginia’s starting defense of Ryan Curtis, Doug Davies and Mark Koontzstymied the Buckeye offense. Ohio State took only 10 shots during the gameand didn’t get its first good look until the final quarter. Virginia’sstarting goalie, Derek Kenney, faced only three shots and had one save.Reserve goalie Matt D’Urso had two saves in the fourth quarter to preservethe shutout.

The Cavaliers return to action Saturday at Johns Hopkins at 2 p.m.
