RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team began play in its third tournament of the season, winning all three game on the opening day of the Sports Plus Collegiate Classic Tournament in Richmond, Va. The Cavaliers began the afternoon with a 2-1 win over Auburn, followed by a 9-2 victory over East Carolina and a 2-0 win over Longwood College in the nightcap.

Stacey Zagol took the mound for UVa against Auburn and struck out five batters while scattering four hits. Virginia gathered six hits in the game, led by Beth Crimi (2-2, 1 RBI). Corinne Good (1-2, double, run), Kelly McCabe (1-3, run), Amy Peay (1-2) and Meaghan Young (1-4, 1 RBI) posted hits in the 2-1 victory.

Chrisy Quinn pitched against East Carolina in game-two. She recorded nine strikeouts while allowing only two hits on the afternoon. The Cavaliers were hot from the plate, posting 10 hits on the afternoon highlighted by Lori Reese (4-4, 3 RBI, triple, run). Stacy Holmes (1-4, 2 RBI, 2 doubles, 2 runs), Kelly McCabe (1-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI) and Good (2-4, run) came up big in the win. Karen Breshears (1-3, 1 RBI, run) and Jen Krill (1-4, 2 RBI) each added hits in the 9-2 win.

Cory Bolkan pitched started on the mound against Longwood College and threw a one-hitter while striking out 10 batters. The Cavaliers gathered five hits, led by Kelly McCabe (2-3, 2 runs). Gina McCabe (1-2), Holmes (1-3, 2 RBI) and Young (1-3) collected hits for Virginia in the 2-0 win.

The three victories improve Virginia’s record to (24-17) overall. The Cavaliers will continue competition in the Sports Plus Collegiate Classic as they compete in the Classic finals (TBA).
