Rosie Walker (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) collected a Shannon LaVigne (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) pass into the circle and sent the ball into the cage five minutes after the Hoyas had tied the game, sending the Hoos (9-4) to a 3-1 defeat of Georgetown. The three goals was the most that the Hoyas (9-3) have allowed all season as they were ranked #3 nationally in scoring defense at .91 GAA.

Virginia went on top early as Jessica Coleman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) connected on a penalty corner just 2:34 into the contest. Carrie Goodloe (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs) and Julia Richardson (Atlanta, Ga./Stone Ridge) were credited with assists on the play.

Georgetown tied the game five minutes into the second half as Elena Elster scored on a scramble in front of the cage following a penalty corner. Ashley Bruggeman assisted on the play.

Five minutes later LaVigne sent the ball into the circle for Walker to notch the goal. The Cavaliers added an insurance goal as Molly McManus (Oakton, Va./Oakton) sent a pass into the circle. Lorraine Vizzuso (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) ran onto the ball and tipped it into the cage with 14:41 to play. The assist was McManus’ first career point. Vizzuso’s goal moves her to eighth all-time on the career goals list. The Cavalier defense denied the Hoyas any further shots and held on for the win.

The Cavaliers continue their homestand with a tilt against the #3 Tar Heels on Sunday, Oct. 15. The Tar Heels (14-1) defeated #5 Michigan 4-0 tonight in Chapel Hill. Game time against the Tar Heels is 1:00 pm.
