GREENSBORO, NC – Virginia midfielder David Jenkins was named the ACC’sMen’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for his efforts in leading theCavaliers to a 12-8 season-opening win vs. 20th-ranked Towson.

Jenkins was outstanding as Virginia’s faceoff man, winning 15 of 23draws in the game. His efforts were especially important early in thegame as he won six of seven attempts in the first quarter to helpVirginia jump to a 5-1 lead. The Cavaliers built an 8-4 halftime leadas the senior tri-captain from Dedham, Mass., claimed 12 of 14 firsthalf faceoffs. Unheralded as a defensive midfielder, Jenkins also ledthe team with 12 ground balls.

A preseason All-American, Jenkins is one of the top faceoffspecialists in the nation. He ranked ninth in Division I lastseason, winning 62.1 percent of his faceoffs.

The third-ranked Cavaliers travel to face top-ranked Syracuse thisSaturday (March 3) at 2:30 p.m.
