UVa Women's Tennis Captures 6-1 Victory over Maryland

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The # 54 University of Virginia women’s tennis team turned in a convincing 6-1 win over Atlantic Coast Conference rival Maryland on Wednesday (April 4) at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville. The victory moved the Cavaliers to 13-5 on the season and gave UVa a 2-1 record in the ACC heading into a pair of weekend matches at Duke and North Carolina.
Virginia’s No. 1 doubles team of Christie Schweer (Houston, Texas/Memorial) and Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) won their fourth consecutive doubles match by downing Delila Causevic and Pamela Floro, 8-4. UVa’s third doubles team, which features second-year Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn/ N.J./Millburn) and Kelly Weaver (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) won their match, 8-1, over Chloe Chavardes and Danielle Piacente, to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Schweer and Williams remained hot. Williams extended her current winning streak to six matches, while Schweer remained undefeated in her last five outings. Tuchband, Weaver and first-year Laura James (Fairfax, Va./Centerville) also won their singles matches.
