CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia women’s tennis team got an important 7-0 win over Atlantic Coast Conference rival N.C. State on Easter Sunday (April 15) in Charlottesville. Virginia won the match by winning two of three doubles matches. The Cavaliers then went on to win singles matches at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 to cement the victory. Virginia is now 14-9 overall and finishes the regular season with a 3-5 ACC mark.

Virginia’s seniors Christie Schweer (Houston, Texas/Memorial) and Kelly Weaver (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) were playing in the final regular season home matches of their UVa tennis careers. Schweer teamed with second-year Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) to capture a big 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Weaver and second-year Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn/ N.J./Millburn) won their final ACC regular season doubles match at No. 3.

Schweer went on to defeat the Wolfpack’s Loni Worsley, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Weaver also won her final regular season match, 6-3, 6-0, over Myrna Bawono. Tuchband cemented the Cavalier win with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kristen Nicholls at No. 4 singles.

After the match had been decided, rain forced the three remaining singles matches to be moved indoors at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville.

UVa returns to action this weekend (April 19-22) when the Cavs travel to Orlando, Fla. for the ACC Championships. Virginia will be the sixth seed in the tournament.
