HARRISONBURG, Va. – The No. 41 University of Virginia men’s tennis team recorded a 6-1 win over in-state rival James Madison on Monday (April 16) in Harrisonburg, Va. The win, in UVa’s last regular season match of the year, moves Virginia to 13-6 overall. The Cavaliers finished with a 4-4 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference and will be the sixth seed in the upcoming (April 19-22) ACC Tournament.

UVa fourth-years Brian Vahaly (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School), Huntley Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill), Brian Hunter (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) and Tommy Croker (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens) all captured singles victories in their final regular season matches as Virginia players. Vahaly finishes the season with a team-best 33-5 record and is within three wins of breaking his own school record for singles wins in a season. He set the record last year when he won 35 matches and finished 35-5 overall.

Virginia returns to action on Friday (April 20) when the Cavaliers face Georgia Tech in the quarterfinal round of the 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. UVa takes on the Yellow Jackets at 3:00 p.m. at the Lake Cane – Marsha Park & Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla. Virginia is the sixth seed in the tournament and will play the winner of the 4-5 match between Florida State and Wake Forest if it advances.
