Lake Buena Vista, Fla. – Second-ranked Georgia Tech held off Clemson and Wake Forest in the final round to win its seventh team title at the 48th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf championship at Disney’s Magnolia Course. Clemson senior John Engler went wire-to-wire to win the fifth individual title for the Tigers. Virginia finished in fourth place at five-under-par 859 (289-283-287).

Georgia Tech, which began Sunday’s round one shot behind Wake Forest, shot an eight-under par 280 to win going away by an eight shot margin over defending-champion Clemson. Wake Forest, which went two-over par for the third round, finished in third place, nine shots off the winning pace. N.C. State was fifth, North Carolina sixth, Duke seventh, Florida State eighth and Maryland ninth.

Engler, who had not finished lower than tied for fifth in his previous three ACC championship tournaments, started fast with an opening day 66, added a two-under par 70 on the second day and closed with a 67 in the third round to finish with a record 54-hole total 203. Georgia Tech’s Bryce Molder, who captured the medal a year ago, finished two shots behind Engler with a 205. Virginia senior Cameron Yancey placed third in the individual competition with a five-under-par 211 (71-71-69) and junior Steve Marino tied for fourth at four-under-par 212 (73-70-69).

Virginia freshman Rusty Kennedy tied for sixth with a three-under par 213 (71-68-74). Kevin O’Connell tied for 34th with a seven-over-par 223 (74-74-75). Rounding out the Virginia players was senior Mike Mitchell, who placed 44th with a 20-over-par 236 (77-78-81).
