CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team will wrap up regular season Atlantic Coast Conference play with a doubleheader against 17th-ranked Florida State at the Seminole Softball Complex on Saturday (April 28). The doubleheader, which begins at 1:00 p.m., will be televised on a tape-delayed basis on Sunday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m. on the Sunshine Network.

The Cavaliers, who have won 12 consecutive games, enter Saturday’s doubleheader at Florida State with a 49-13 overall record and 4-2 mark in the ACC. Virginia is also 5-3 in the Southern Atlantic Softball Alliance. The 17th-ranked Seminoles are 47-7 overall, 3-1 in the ACC and 5-1 in the SASA.

Virginia has set a team record for victories in a season with its 49 wins this year, surpassing the former mark of 42 wins in 1989 (42-12). Not only are UVa’s 49 wins a team record, but they are also an overall school record for wins by any Cavalier squad. The baseball team held the previous school record with 44 wins in 1996 (44-21).

Florida State leads the all-time series with Virginia 40-13. The Seminoles won four of five meetings last season. The two teams met three times in the 2000 ACC Tournament with UVa winning the first game 4-2. FSU won the next two meetings 4-2 and 3-1 to win the ACC title.

After Saturday’s doubleheader at Florida State, the Cavaliers play a doubleheader at Florida A&M in Tallahassee beginning at 10:00 a.m. Virginia then concludes regular season play at the 2001 ACC Tournament May 11-13 at Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, N.C.
