Kiamesha Otey won the 100-meter dash and the long jump at today’s JMU Invitational, and in the process qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championships. Her time of 11.43 and her leap of 6.22 were both season bests and made her eligible for selection to the NCAA Championships in June. Also winning for the Cavaliers were the women’s 400-meter relay team (45.80), Eliese Mitchell in the hammer (53.86m), Naccole Guinn in the triple jump (12.65m), and Justin Wood in the 3000-meter run. Jarrett Hagwood’s leap of 7.38m was a season best and good enough for third in the meet.

Also medalling for the Cavaliers were Carielle Doe in the 200 (24.59), and Hilary Wilson in the discus (43.30m) and in the hammer (48.40m). Ellen Dwyer finished third in the 3000-meter run (10:03.97) while Natalie Randolph was the runner-up in the 400 intermediate hurdles (1:01.01). Dawn Clearly was third in the steeplechase (10:52.70).

On the men’s side, Bill Johnston took second in the hammer with a throw of 56.48m while Hagwood was third in the high hurdles in a time of 14.55 and Tom Ellis was third in the steeple in a time of 9:16.80.
