University of Virginia runner Bobby Thiele and women’s rower Margot Noordzij were named to the Verizon Academic All-District III Spring At Large Teams today. Thiele was named a first team selection while Noordzij was named to the second-team.

Thiele, from Charlottesville, was the runner up at the ACC Outdoor Championships in both the 5000-meter run and the 10000-meter run as the men finished third overall as a team. He had the team’s best time in both the 5000- and 10000-meter runs this season.

Noordzij, from Oegstgeest, the Netherlands, is a member of Virginia’s varsity eight. UVa’s varsity eight won that competition at the 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships and helped the Cavaliers win the ACC team championship for the second consecutive year. She earned All-ACC honors this spring and is with the UVa team at the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships this week (May 24-26) in Gainesville, Ga.

Noordzij and Thiele both graduated from Virginia on May 20 and both majored in chemical engineering. Thiele was honored by the Seven Society with the Lou Onesty Memorial Award during Graduation Weekend, earned intermediate honors and has been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll three times for her academic work and athletic participation.

Noordzij was a member of Tau Beta Pi Honor Society. She received the McNeilly Memorial Award from the UVa Chemical Engineering Department, earned intermediate honors and has been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll three times for her academic work and athletic participation.
