CHARLOTTESVILLE – A special program is scheduled prior to the University of Virginia’s home football game with Duke University on Saturday (Sept. 29). The program will begin 20 minutes before the game’s 1:00 p.m. kickoff.

The program honors local disaster relief efforts in support of victims of the recent national tragedy. Representatives of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Fire Services and firefighters from New York City will be recognized. The Charlottesville/Albemarle Fire Services initiated the community drive to raise funds for the New York 911 Fire Relief Fund.

A musical performance featuring patriotic songs, honor guards from the VFW, the American Legion and the Charlottesville Fire Department, and a moment of silence will also be part of the program.

Saturday’s halftime activities will feature the 1976 Virginia men’s basketball team that won the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Championship and a performance by the James River High School Band. All of the players on the 1976 men’s basketball team are expected to return for the recognition. After the ceremony on the field, they will be available to sign autographs for fans on top of the hill at the north end of the stadium for the remainder of halftime.
