DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Virginia men’s golf team is tied for fifth place after one round of the Duke Golf Classic at the Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C. The Cavaliers shot a 14-over-par 302 on the par 72, 7,045-yard course, and are tied with Michigan State.

Virginia Tech is leading after the first round, having shot a five-over-par 293. Tulsa is six shots back of the Hokies, while Augusta State and Georgia Southern at 12-over-par are seven shots back of the lead and two shots ahead of Virginia .

Eric Jorgensen of Michigan State is in first place with a three-under-par 69. Virginia’s Steve Marino and Jeremy Luce are tied for 13th with identical two-over-par 74’s. Meanwhile, Cavaliers Justin Goodhue, Thomas Lee and Elijah Barnes all fired opening-round 77s to finish the round five-over-par and tie for 33rd overall.
