The Virginia women, led by Jane Maxwell (Charlotte, NC, Providence Day), finished first at the Cavalier Open in Charlottesville, VA. She was closely followed by teammates K.C. Meehan (Brick, NJ, Brick Township), Melanie Matthews (Waynesboro, VA, Waynesboro), first year Ashley Seaton (Richmond, VA ,TJ Governor’s School) and Amy Eastwood (Richmond, VA, Douglas Freeman) rounded out the team scoring. Virgina’s score of 35 beat out second place Duke University who scored 47. The winner of the race was Sheela Agrawal (Unattached 21:18.70)

Virginia’s men placed third overall, and were led by first year Ryan Neuhart (Newport News, VA, Denbigh). Neuhart finished eighth overall, followed by James Catano (Pembroke, MA, Catholic Memorial), Dave Vitto (Burke, VA, Lake Braddock), Pat English (Milton, MA, Boston College) and James Atchison (Charlottesville, VA, Albemarle). William and Mary’s men won the meet with a score of 26 and were led by West Garrett (7th, 25:44.10). The winner of the men’s race was Terry Brennan (Unattached, 24:21.50).

The Virginia varsity teams did not participate in the race. Currently the Virginia women are ranked #14th in the nation.
