WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Virginia volleyball team fell to Wake Forest 3-0 (30-27, 30-15, 30-21) at Reynolds Gymnasium Sunday afternoon (November 4). With the loss, the Cavaliers fall to 7-15 overall and 3-11 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Wake Forest improves to 17-8 overall and 10-5 in the ACC.

Fourth-year outside hitter Jenny Harmon (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) led the Cavaliers with eight kills, while second-year outside hitter Katie Synan (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) had seven kills and a team-high .316 hitting percentage. Second-year middle Shannon Boyle (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) posted six kills and team-highs of nine digs, four blocks and two service aces. First-year setter Lily Phillips (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon) dished out 20 assists, while second-year setter Abby Whittenburg (Amarillo, Texas/Amarillo) contributed 10 assists.

Trina Maso de Moya led the Demon Deacons with 13 kills and nine digs. Katy de Roeck and Margaret Davidson both tallied 11 kills, while de Roeck added seven digs, two blocks and two aces. Davidson also registered four blocks and hit .625. Setter Ashlee Phillips recorded the only double-double of the match with 40 assists and 11 digs.

Wake Forest hit an impressive .324 as a team, while the Cavaliers only managed a .138 hitting percentage in the match. Wake also held a 49-36 edge in kills and a 53-37 advantage in digs.

The Cavaliers return to action on Friday, November 9 when they host Georgia Tech at 8:00 p.m. at University Hall.
