Charlottesville, VA – Despite outrebounding their opponents by a 44-35 margin and having three starters in double figures, the University of Virginia Cavaliers fell to Dynamo of Moscow 84-72 tonight in an exhibition game held at University Hall. Brandi Teamer (Joliet, Ill.) led the Cavaliers in both scoring (19 points) and rebounding (12 boards) while Telisha Quarles (Louisa, Va.) chipped in 18 and Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y.)added 10 points in her collegiate debut. The Cavaliers had a two-point lead with 7:23 to play but Dynamo outscored them 27-13 down the stretch to take the victory as five players reached double-digit scoring for Dynamo.

The Cavaliers trailed by as many as 12 in the first half with 9:27 but battled back to tie the game 38-38 at the break as Teamer scored seven of her 19 in the final 9:27 of the first half.

In the second half, Dynamo shot 59.3% (16-of-27) from the field while the Cavaliers managed just 10-of-36 shooting (27.8%) in the same period. Overall, Dynamo shot 52.4% from the field while the Cavaliers were 32.3%, including 6-of-22 (27.3%) from behind the arc.

Two first-years, LaTonya Blue (Baltimore, Md.) and Teamer both reached double-digits on the boards, as Blue pulled down 10 rebounds and her teammate notched 12 boards, which led all players.

The Cavaliers committed 23 turnovers, and Dynamo made them pay with 20 points off the miscues. In contrast, the Cavaliers were only able to capitalize with nine points off the Dynamo turnovers.

Virginia returns to action on Thursday as the Cavaliers take on the Houston Jaguars in another exhibition game. Former Hoo Tora Suber plays for the Jaguars. Game time at University Hall on Nov. 8 is 7:30.
