VIRGINIA SUFFERS FIRST LOSS

Richmond, Va.- The University of Virginia women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season with a 77-72 decision at Richmond on Monday.
The Cavaliers stand 1-1 overall while Richmond is 1-1 overall. “I think Richmond played a very good game,” said head coach Debbie Ryan. “I thought our defense’s effort got us in trouble. Tonight we lost some assignments.”
Freshman Brandi Teamer (Joliet, Ill.) led UVA with a career-high 26 points in her first double-double performance of her career. She also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Freshman LaTonya Blue (Baltimore, Md.) added 13 points off the bench and sophomore Anna Crosswhite (Castlecrag, Aus.) had 11 points. Sophomore Anna Prillaman (Midlothian, Va.) grabbed a career high 11 rebounds.
Amber Goppert led Richmond with 21 points. Overall UVA out-rebounded the Spiders 52-39.
“We have the components for a good team,” continued Ryan. “We just haven’t put them together yet.”
Virginia opens its home slate on Tuesday, Nov. 20 with Liberty. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. at University Hall.
